September 2015 – frame rebuild, window clean-up, fridge and seat restoration

September went pretty well. We managed to work 123 hours on the trailer despite 1/2 of it being gone. The frame has been at the welding shop most of the month.  It is almost ready to be painted and for the new floor to be installed. It’s been raining for going on two weeks which is making it difficult to bring the chassis home without getting the new steel rusty.

We bought a 1937 Fridgidaire fridge with the intention of restoring the box and removing the “guts” to replace with an efficient 120v/12v system. We’re nearly ready to repaint the fridge and install the new cooling system.

We also removed nearly all the windows, replaced a couple of broken panes and cleaned up all the old caulk around the frames.

Our plan includes a rear lounge area which will use seats from a ’65 Mustang and a ’62 Falcon. We found the seats and have begun the process of refinishing them to match.

The goal for October is to get the floor and shell on. That will include adding a gray water tank and flipping the trailer over to insulate the floor and install new belly pans. We also need to find someone to fabricate new wheels wells or repair the original ones. We’ll also paint the fridge and hopefully will have time to replace the seals in the windows.  If we can get the shell back on we will be able to pull under a carport and possibly be able to continue working into the winter.
